George was a stray that was found hanging out in the woods off George Anderson Drive in South Wilmington. Our rescue had been notified that there was a domestic rabbit there that needed to be rescued. We first were looking for a female harlequin that we had been sent pictures of but when we got on location George was the first rabbit we spotted. We caught George by luring him with pellet food (we shook the food bin) and he came right up to us and we where able to grab him and secure him. The other rabbit we named "Ann" was not so easy to catch. We had to set a drop trap to get her. Once we caught them we surrendered them to Animal Services where they were placed on a stray hold. The owner did not come claim them and they were returned to the rescue after the hold. While at the shelter awaiting to be claimed; Ann gave birth to five babies. George is shy, aloof, nervous, and not for small children.

The shelter describes me as a "Violet" which means that the primary behaviors that were observed was cowering, hiding, and thumping along with a little occasional exploring and startling. I am a shy rabbit. In a home, violets may still cower, hide, thump, and startle occasionally but will still usually blossom out to explore, groom, and present for petting. Violets usually do best in homes with adults only but with a little nurturing can become gentle, sweet companions. They may get along well with other rabbits, but if the other rabbit is a tulip - bullying can occur.
